Training & Education

Your investment in quality education today to bring a lifetime of successful smiles tomorrow

SmileFast Implants provide cost-effective training programmes for dentists with limited or no experience in placing implants or oral surgery.

Our courses present high-quality learning, with guidance and on-going support, to ensure more predictable and longer-lasting treatment results.

With a strong emphasis on hands-on training, we allow you to put theory into practice before returning to your clinics.

Whilst our education doesn’t restrict you to a single system we are proud to partner with BioHorizons Camlog as our partners across all our educational programmes.

Level 7 PG Diploma in Implant Dentistry

The PG Diploma in Implant Dentistry (Eduqual) is a programme designed to give general dentists the knowledge and confidence to place and restore dental implants as well as the ability to talk to patients and appropriately consent through all stages of the treatment.

The programme is designed to work around busy schedules by providing a blended learning approach. The theoretical aspect of the programme will be delivered using pre- recorded modules on Kajabi, an on-line learning platform.

In addition to the online theoretical learning, there will be six hands-on days of training delivered over three weekends. These will provide delegates with the opportunity to practice specific clinical skills on life-like models and pigs heads, as well as build on the knowledge from the online modules in the more important topics.

You must place and restore a minimum of four implants under mentor supervision in order to complete the course. BioHorizons Camlog will provide (completely free of charge) the implant, a healing cap and a scan body or impression post required to carry out this minimum number of cases. They will also offer the same for an additional six implant placements if completed under mentor supervision (ten implants in total during the course).

The PG Diploma has been structured to ensure dentists who successfully complete the course will be able to safely and competently place and restore dental implants in their practice, as well as have the theoretical and clinical knowledge to build on to be able to manage advanced cases.

The Diploma is accredited and awarded by EduQual (Level 7). EduQual is a regulated awarding body who uses a dedicated team of professionals with many years’ experience in designing, developing, delivering, and awarding qualifications. To become recognised as an EduQual-approved centre there are comprehensive quality assurance processes and procedures to follow. These procedures are designed to safeguard the integrity and validity of EduQual-accredited qualifications and EduQual-accredited assessment methodology. This means that the content and delivery of the SmileFast Implant Diploma must meet these robust criteria to deliver an approved and quality curriculum.
The ethos behind SmileFast has always been to make good quality dentistry available to EVERY dentist and EVERY patient. We stand by this ethos in everything we do, and the SmileFast Implant Diploma is just another example of how we have re-worked and re-engineered a traditional (and usually very expensive) process to make contemporary general dentistry more cost-effective and more available to those who want to learn and progress their careers.

We want to break down the barriers to learning implants and high course fees was one of those barriers. Now we have a business model which gives you great value, as well as maintaining a high standard of education.

We also offer the ability to spread the cost over a number of months without penalty.
Dr Alex Payne and Dr Scott Philips are the clinical leads for the Level 7 Diploma in Implant Dentistry. If you click on their image on the home page then you can see their full bio.

The clinical mentors that will assist on the Diploma have been chosen due to their long-standing clinical excellence and reputation within the profession, as well as for their post-graduate higher education qualifications and teaching experience. The mentors are located all around the country so that any diploma delegate will have access to a more local mentor throughout the course.
The Diploma teaches the principles of implant placement and restorative dentistry. It will cover all concepts and understandings of different theory, techniques and rationales behind implant choice and placement. What is taught can be applied to any implant system, however all implant componentry for the Diploma will be provided by BioHorizons Camlog. This is all covered under the course fee. You can find out more about BioHorizons Camlog by visiting https://www.biohorizons.com/
The location of the hands on days vary but we generally all London based courses are held at London Heathrow Hotel and Manchester based courses are held at Denhill House in Hulme.
BioHorizons Camlog will provide the implant and other components free of charge for your mentored cases. Delegates will also get 25% off their lab fees.

The mentoring fee depends on whether you travel to the mentor’s practice or if the mentor attends your practice.

If you attend the mentor’s practice, the base mentoring fee for that day will be £1,750 for a single implant, and £400 for each additional implant up to a maximum of five implants (£3400 fee cap). If the mentor attends your practice, the base mentoring fee for that day will be £1,950 for a single implant, and £400 for each additional implant up to a maximum of five implants (£3400 fee cap).
Yes. A key part of providing implant dentistry is being able to communicate effectively with your patient and taking them through the consent process.

The Diploma includes modules on how to speak to patients, case selection and how to market implants in your practice.
The SmileFast Implant Diploma programme constitutes 130 hours of accredited education which consist of online learning, literature review and written assessments. In addition to the 6 surgical days, and the days organized with your assigned mentor for implant placements, there will be 12 online modules through our online learning platform, this is a flexible learning platform allowing you to fit your learning around your practice and family commitments.
